Training and Education Opportunities

The El Dorado County Emergency Services Authority EMS Training Program is designed to equip the providers in the EMS System with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide critical pre-hospital care in emergency situations. This program prepares participatns to respond effectively o medical crises, trauma, and other life-threatening conditions as first responders.

PROGRAM LEVELS:

EMS training is structures into various certification levels including:

  • Public Safety First Aid: basic life support first aid and CPR
  • Emergency Medical Responder (EMR): Basic life support skills for first responders
  • Emergency Medical Technician (EMT): Fundamental emergency care, including CPR, patient assessment, and basic medical interventions
  • Paramedic: Highest level of pre-hospital care, including advanced life support (ALS), medication administration, and complex medical procedures

COURSE COMPONENTS:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS): CPR, airway management, and bleeding control
  • Trauma Care: Management of fractures, burns, and head injuries
  • Medical Emergencies: Handling strokes, cardiac arrests, respiratory distress, and more.
  • Patient Assessment: Evaluating vital signs and determining best course of action
  • Ambulance Operations: Safe transport and communication in emergency scenarios
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS) (for paramedics): Medication administration, ECG interpretation, and advanced procedures

TRAINING FORMAT:

  • Classroom Instruction: Covers theoretical knowledge, medical protocols, and ethical considerations
  • Hands-On Practical Training: Simulated emergency scenarios, first aid application, and equipment handling
  • Clinical Rotations: Real-world experience in hospitals and ambulance settings
  • Certification & Licensing: Upon successful completion, participants may receive state or national certification

AUTHORIZED TRAINING PROGRAM:

  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR for Healthcare Providers
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
  • CA-EMSA CE Provider
